The fifth and final major of the LPGA Tour season takes place this week at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales. This is the 49th playing of the Women’s Open, and the first time it is being played in Wales.
Royal Porthcawl plays as a 6,748-yard par-72 and has been the host of many amateur and senior opens over the years. Players in the field this week have mentioned how difficult it is off the tee. Nelly Korda had this to say on the challenges she faces this week.
“I feel like it’s maybe a little bit more demanding off the tee, as in maybe with other links courses, you can hit driver and there are some bunkers in the way, but here you definitely can’t hit driver,” she said. “Very crucial to stay in play on the tee, but you hit an iron off the tee, and you’re probably going to have a longer club into the green too.”
Who to Watch at the AIG Women’s Open

Following her win in her professional debut last week at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open, Lottie Woad will be drawing all eyes as she tees off in her third major of the year. Her recent play has put the world on notice, with two wins in July and a T3 finish at the Amundi Evian Championship. She has been playing so well that some betting sites have opened with her as the favorite to win the tournament this week.
There are two players to follow this week as they continue their chase for the Career Grand Slam. Minjee Lee and In Gee Chung need a victory at the AIG Women’s Open to accomplish a legendary feat.
Look for Olympic gold medalist and world number one, Nelly Korda this week, as we believe she will be at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday. Although this may seem to be an easy pick, she has made the cut in every tournament this season, including five top 10s.
