After last week’s international match play tournament, the format will return to the usual four-day stroke play format. This week’s tournament is at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, West Course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is the third iteration of this tournament.
China’s Ruoning Yin looks to defend her title after her narrow victory over Jeeno Thitikul last year.
Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club is a par 72 playing 6,536 yards. The purse has remained the same at $3 million from last year’s tournament.
Who to Watch at the Maybank Championship
After winning three times on the LPGA Tour and accumulating $2.8 million in earnings during the 2024 season, Ruoning Yin is looking for her first victory on tour this season. Yin has had an up-and-down season with two runner-ups but did not play in August and September. Yin acknowledged the difficulty in defending her title this week.
“I would love to defend my title, but there are a lot of great players this week. I think the LPGA players are getting stronger and stronger. Only one multiple winner this year. So I would say there is a chance for me to defend my title, but there are a lot of great players as well. I think I just plan to play my best out there,” she said.
Hannah Green is a name to watch this week after a T5 at the BMW Ladies Championship and her victory as part of Team Australia at the Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown last week. After some time off and some changes with her swing and a new putter, Green looks in excellent form and could be a contender come Sunday.
