The LPGA Tour begins its second Asian swing in Shanghai, China, at the 2026 Buick LPGA Shanghai. The Asian swings have become crucial to the LPGA Tour schedule as its fans are growing globally.
This is the sixth rendition of the Buick LPGA Shanghai but its first at Sheshan Golf Club. This venue is known for hosting the WGC-HSBC Champions (now known as the World Golf Championship) on the PGA Tour for 14 years.
Last year, Jeeno Thitikul battled Minami Katsu in a five-hole playoff for the win. This year, she looks to defend against a field that include last week’s LET winner Miyu Yamashita, local favorite Ruoning Yin and many more.
Who to Watch at the 2026 Buick LPGA Shanghai
Beyond Jeeno Thitikul, who is World No. 2 and looking for her 12th LPGA Tour title, we have some familiar faces in the field.
Danielle Kang, who has won this event twice (2018, 2019), is a sponsor invite this week. She has played every rendition of this event. While she has played sporadically this year due to illness, she is committed to playing the WTGL this offseason.
Two amateurs are sponsor invites as well this week. Ziyan Meng is ranked 186th in the world and will playing in her second LPGA Tour event this year. She has played on the China LPGA (CLPGA) 12 times. Ningyao Xu is the other amateur invited to play this week – she has mainly split her time between the CLPGA and Thai LPGA. She is currently a junior in high school.
Ruoning Yin, who won this tournament in 2024, is excited to be home, saying, “I think it’s just like going home. It was a great honor to claim medals during the Asian Games. Also very happy and very delighted playing in front of home fans. It’s always good to start something new, but I think this is the very beginning for Chinese golf.”
Angel Yin is the fourth former champion of the Buick LPGA Shanghai to round out the field, though half (8) of winners from the LPGA Tour season thus far are here as well.
