With one more round until the field is cut down to 15 teams, everyone is vying for the best positions ahead of tomorrow. The best position, of course, is spot #1, and it is currently held by Virginia, who shot 1-under today as a team.
The only other teams to go under par today are Illinois and Vanderbilt, who unsurprisingly hold the second and third spots, respectively.
Where Is Christo Lamprecht?
A big surprise today was the drop in Georgia Tech’s ranking after a strong showing yesterday. Their number one player, who also happens to be the #1 world amateur, Christo Lamprecht, had to be subbed out this morning due to his back locking up and spasming.

Morning Wave Leaders
Virginia senior George Duangmanee shot 1-under again today to bring him to 2-under and tied for second. Yesterday’s leader, Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai was able to sprinkle a few birdies onto his scorecard but had a tough string of holes on 14-16 that ultimately brought him to 5-over today, or even for the tournament.
In this wave, Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt was one of the top-10 players who made the biggest jump, moving up 56 places on the leaderboard to T4. He shot 3-under today and was inches away from eagling par-4 Hole #5 with a links-style shot that landed on top of a hill and trickled down towards the hole.
Virginia began the day tied for first and maintained their status while Arizona dropped after shooting 10-over as a team today.
Afternoon Wave Leaders
Stanford’s Karl Vilips supercharged the start of his round by eagling his first hole, Hole #10. After birdieing Hole #13, he almost eagles again on Hole #15 and then proceeds to birdie #17. A couple bogeys showed up on his back nine, but so did another birdie, so he ended at 4-under for the day.
Adam Wallin from Ohio State was also in the conversation yesterday. After a slow start today, he managed to shoot 2-over and tie for second going into tomorrow.
