The Barracuda Championship is an alternate event to the Open Championship. This has been a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour since 2022.
In 2012, the format of this event changed from stroke play to a Modified Stableford scoring system, in which each player earns points based on the score they receive on each hole. The player with the most points at the end of the four-day event wins. The winner will receive a two-year PGA Tour exemption, a spot in the 2026 PGA Championship held at Aronimink Golf Club, 24 Official World Golf Ranking points and 300 FedEx Cup points.
Here is how the Modified Stableford format works:
Points | Score on hole |
+8 | Double eagle (3 strokes under par) |
+5 | Eagle (2 strokes under par) |
+2 | Birdie (1 stroke under par) |
0 | Par |
-1 | Bogey (1 stroke over par) |
-3 | Double bogey or worse (2 strokes or more over par) |

The scoring record within the Modified Stableford format is 50 points, set by the 2021 Champion Erik van Rooyen during his first career PGA Tour win.
Famous Winners at the Barracuda Championship
Last year’s champion Nick Dunlap captured his second career PGA Tour win (and first as a professional), defeating Vince Whaley by two points. Akshay Bhatia and Collin Morikawa – in just his sixth professional start – each won for the first time in their careers at the Barracuda Championship.
