The LPGA Tour hosts its first and only tournament in Canada this year at the CPKC Women’s Open. Following last week’s tournament at the Standard Portland Classic, the tour is in the midst of its Northern U.S. and Canada stretch.
American Lauren Coughlin will look to defend her title following her win at Earl Grey Golf Club last year. The 2025 CPKC Women’s Open will take place at Mississauga Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Mississauga Golf and Country Club is a par 71, playing 6,661 yards. Last year, Coughlin defeated Japan’s Mao Saigo by two strokes for her first LPGA Tour victory. Coughlin earned $390,000 in prize money. This year’s purse has increased by $150,000.
Who to Watch at CPKC Women’s Open
After many of the tour’s top players did not play at the Standard Portland Classic, they are back this week. New world number one, Jeeno Thitikul, is making her first start since the AIG Women’s Open. Thitikul is looking for her second win on tour this season. She had this to say on her mindset after starting this week at world number one.
“I feel like every day that I’ve been out there — me and Nelly trying to do our best in our job. That’s pretty much what we are focusing on. I don’t think we are just like oh, I want to do this week the best to win it so we can be able to be No. 1 in the world, to be stuck on No. 1 in the world as long as possible. I don’t think that’s the strategy that we are playing out there,” she said.” We are playing out there to win each tournament that we are able to and then improve ourselves every week that we can. So that’s pretty much all my perspective on that.”
Rising star Lottie Woad is also making her first start since the AIG Women’s Open. Woad, currently sitting at 19th in the world, is making her first professional start in Canada. Although she has never played in Canada, she noted how tricky it can be around the greens.
“Yeah, it’s my first time in Canada. I think I’ve played golf courses similar to this. Yeah, great course. Quite thick rough around the greens, which I’ve played a fair few college events like that. Know how to play that. Yeah, definitely be a challenge if you miss the greens.”
After Akie Iwai became the fourth Japanese rookie to win on tour this season, look for other rookies to make a run this week. Saki Baba is in her first year on the LPGA Tour and has three top 10s in 14 starts. The 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion could be a name to watch this week.
