The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G was cancelled this weekend due to heavy rain on Saturday. Pinnacle Country Club, located in Rogers, Arkansas, received over three inches of rain. The LPGA Tour released a statement announcing the cancellation of the tournament early Sunday morning.

The course received 3.25” of rain last night and after having assessed the golf course and consulted with our meteorologist and superintendent, the golf course is unplayable. Based on the weather forecast for the remainder of today and all-day Monday and Tuesday, it is highly unlikely that 36 holes could be completed to make it an official event.”

According to the LPGA Tour, the tournament will also be unofficial, meaning no points in the Race to CME Globe will be awarded to players on the leaderboard. However, $2 million in prize money will be divided among players. The tour announced $1.5 million would be distributed under the standard LPGA purse distribution to the top 65 players and ties, and $500,000 would be divided amongst the 144-player field.

American Sarah Schmelzel and Japan’s Minami Katsu finished tied for first place at 8-under, with six players tying for third place at 7-under.

The LPGA Tour will resume the weekend of October 1st at the Lotte Championship presented by Hoakalei. It is the first tournament in the tour’s Pacific stretch.
