The Americans needed a spark heading into the Saturday afternoon session, so they paired Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau together in the second match. On the European side, Matt Fitzpatrick was supposed to pair up with Viktor Hovland in the last afternoon match, but Hovland’s neck injury caused Tyrrell Hatton to step in.

America’s Cameron Young was paired with Justin Thomas to go up against Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. A fired-up Lowry made an eagle on the fourth hole and birdied the fifth hole to give his team a 2 UP lead. Young fired up the American crowd when his 36-foot birdie fell on the seventh hole to cut into the Europeans’ lead. Thomas made his birdie putt on the ninth hole to tie the match. McIlroy made birdie on the 14th hole and Lowry made one on the 18th hole to win their match 2 UP.

Spaun then birdied the 17th and 18th hole to win the match and put the only American point from the Saturday Fourball matches on the board.

The final match of the day saw Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay paired together again playing Hatton and Fitzpatrick. This match was all square through eight holes before Fitzpatrick birdied the ninth hole to go 1 UP. Burns tied the match with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 14th hole.
