The LPGA Tour continues its Pacific stretch this week with the Buick LPGA Shanghai. The event, co-sanctioned by the China LPGA Tour, began in 2018 but skipped years 2020-2022.
China’s Ruoning Yin will look to defend her title. “It’s meaningful playing for titles, but at home we have home crowd, home fans, so a lot of moments where it’s going to be different,” said Yin.
Qizhong Garden Golf Club is a par 72 playing 6,703 yards. The tournament’s purse is $2.2 million.
Who to Watch at the Buick LPGA Shanghai
We have yet to have a repeat winner on the LPGA Tour this season. If a new winner is crowned again this week, 27 no-repeat winners will set a new record on tour.
The local favorite, Yin, will be defending her title. However, many eyes are on World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, who will be competing in the field alongside major winner Minjee Lee and several other one-time winner hopefuls looking for victory number two this season.
Thitikul said, “Yeah, I mean, like second time here in Shanghai, and I had really good time last year in Shanghai for the first
time playing. And then also playing alongside Ronni [Yin] and we had a lot of China fan. So I feel like every time I
play in Asia I just love being in Asia.”
