Next up in our Fall Putter Series is the Bomar Putting Company. After an insightful conversation with Hanna Golf, we now look to side-saddle putting, a putting stroke everyone should consider.

The Bomar Putting Company is a family-owned company that specializes in manufacturing side-saddle putters. Billy and Brittany Bomar are the father-daughter duo who decided to turn their putting style into a business.

Billy played at Oral Roberts University before turning professional, where he won over 200 professional tournaments. Brittany played at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Hawaii-Manoa. She then spent most of her professional career playing on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour. Chase Bomar, the youngest of the Bomars, has joined the family business as well as a sales representative and club technician.

Bomar Putting Company, established in 2020, gave the Bomars a platform to share their knowledge of the side-saddle putting stroke and grow the game by making putting more efficient. The putters are produced with American-sourced materials and crafted in Idaho. They assemble their putters with fusion welding, which gives the putters a unique sound when the ball is struck.

And yes, side-saddle putting is legal and the Bomar putters conform to the rules of golf. Bryson DeChambeau, Sam Snead and K.J. Choi are the most notable players who have tried side-saddle putting. You may remember seeing them on TV with the front of their bodies facing the hole when they putted – that was side-saddle putting.

The theory is that facing the hole gives you more accuracy in your alignment and more distance control because you’re using a more natural posture and swinging motion than when you’re trying to make a putt facing away from the hole, like you do in traditional putting.

Fairway to Green’s Nathan Rarick had the opportunity to talk with Co-founder and CEO of Bomar Putting Company, Brittany Bomar.

Nathan Rarick: What inspired you to found this company?

Brittany Bomar: My father, Billy, and I founded the company in 2020 with the intention of introducing side-saddle to the golf world and normalizing the style as we believe it will help golfers of all skill levels become superior putters!

NR: What makes your putter different from the big-name companies?

BB: At the moment, no major manufacturers offer a side-saddle putter and only two other small companies such as ours exist to produce a face-on putter option. I believe we stand out as our company is owned by two professionals that have had a lot of success with the style, and we offer an instructional series. So, you’re not only buying a piece of equipment, but also a new perspective and the guidance to make the transition smoothly.

NR: Is side-saddle putting better for the amateur or pro golfer?

BB: We have always said that side-saddle is literally for anyone that wants to improve their putting, which is why our customers range from professionals to high-handicap amateurs to low-handicap amateurs to junior golfers and collegiate golfers.

NR: Can you describe your process of creating a putter? Can you customize it?

BB: Our putters are handcrafted by engineers locally in Coeur’ D Alene, Idaho, and we’re able to fit virtually based upon height, dominant hand and weight preference, making the process quick and straight-forward. We are also one of the fastest in the entire industry, as we average 5-7 days from the time the order is placed until the putter is in your hands.

NR: What are your future plans and goals for Bomar Putting Co?

BB: Our biggest goal is to help golfers enjoy putting and make it a strength in their game! I believe we will be able to achieve this at a much quicker pace once we collaborate with a major club company that will provide us with the ability to advertise to the masses.
