Haeran Ryu holds a 1-shot lead over Grace Kim after the opening round of The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican.
Ryu set the clubhouse lead after shooting a 6-under-64 during the morning wave. The only bogey of her round came at the par-4 17th hole, but she bounced back with one of her seven birdies on the 18th hole.
Ryu started on the back nine where she shot 35 (-2). Her best stretch of the round started at hole four where she made the first of four consecutive birdies. Those birdies and five pars on the front nine led to a score of 4-under-31. She hit all 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation during the first round.
Kim, who sits one shot behind Ryu, was at 6-under, but a bogey on her 17th hole of the day sees her trailing after the first round. Former major champion Jennifer Kupcho is in third place at 4-under. Charley Hull is in a tie for fourth with three other golfers at 3-under.
Defending champion Nelly Korda shot a 1-over-71 in her opening round, leaving her currently T55. The three-time winner of this event is still searching for her first win of the 2025 season after earning her seventh here last season.
Sponsor exemption invite and granddaughter of President Donald Trump, Kai Trump, shot an opening round 83 playing in her first professional tournament. See her answer Kelly Okun’s interview question below.
