The Investec South African Open has been played since 1903. It was originally one of the flagship events of the Sunshine Tour and is now a co-sanctioned event between that tour and the DP World Tour. Gary Player has the most victories at the Investec South African Open with 13. However, Ernie Els, with 5 wins at this event, will be teeing it up this week.

Els said, “It’s great to be back here. I played a junior golf event here in Stellenbosch. I first played in the Investec South African Open as a 16 year old in 1986, and then all the way through. I’m 56 now. It just shows you what this tournament has meant to me. When I won it in 1992, that got me started winning around the world. It was the start of my whole career.”

Last year’s event was cut to 54 holes due to weather. South African Dylan Naidoo defeated Laurie Canter in a playoff for his first career victory.

About Stellenbosch Golf Club

Stellenbosch Golf Club is the fourth oldest golf club in South Africa and plays at 7,213 yards as a par 70. Originally built as a 9-hole course, it was converted to its current 18 hole layout in 1954. The South African Open was last held here in 1999.

Who to Watch at the 2026 Investec South African Open Championship

Naidoo will look to defend his title against a field that includes Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Els and last week’s Magical Kenya Open winner Casey Jarvis. We predict Jayden Schaper will win his national open. In his last six starts he has four top-10 finishes that include wins at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
