The Players Championship has been an official PGA Tour event since 1974, though it has only been played at TPC Sawgrass’s Stadium Course since 1982.
This year is the 52nd playing of The Players and the 123-player field includes 47 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings. We will also see seven past champions and 14 players making their debut in a tournament that features the PGA Tour’s best golfers. The last six winners of this event all entered the week inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
In the 2025 Players Championship Rory McIlroy captured his second Players Championship by defeating J.J. Spaun in a playoff. McIlroy is ready to defend his title after withdrawing due to a back injury last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
About TPC Sawgrass: The Stadium Course
The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass plays at 7,352 yards as a par 72. The iconic hole is the par-3 17th hole with an island green that can cause drama towards the end of the round. The course record was set by Tom Hoge when he shot 62 in round three of the 2023 Players Championship.
Who to Watch at the 2026 Players Championship
McIlroy will look to win his third Players Championship title against a field that includes past champions Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Si Woo Kim. Both Scheffler and McIlroy are looking to join Jack Nicklaus as the only three-time winners of The Players; they would be the first to do so at TPC Sawgrass for all three wins.
We predict Kim will pick up his second career win at The Players. In seven starts on the PGA Tour this season, he has five top-13 finishes and is second in strokes gained tee-to-green for the season.
