The Charles Schwab Challenge has been played as a PGA Tour event since 1946. Colonial Country Club has hosted the event each year, making it the longest-running host venue for a non-major on the PGA Tour.
The winner of the event receives three additional prizes to go along with the purse earnings, FedExCup points and Official World Golf Rankings points. The winner also receives a tartan plaid jacket, his name engraved on the Wall of Champions near the first tee and a 1982 Jeep Scrambler. Every year since 2019 when Charles Schwab took over as title sponsor, the winner receives a one-of-a-kind car.
In the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge, Ben Griffin earned his second career PGA Tour win by defeating Matti Schmid by one stroke. Griffin had this to say about the emotions returning to this golf course:
“Kind of came to this tournament not really thinking a whole lot about it. Then when I got here I was like, ‘Oh, wow, I’m the defending champion. Wow, my picture is everywhere.’ This is different.”
About Colonial Country Club
Colonial Country Club plays 7,289 yards as a par 70. In 2018, Kevin Na became the most recent golfer to shoot the course record of 61 (-9).
The “Horrible Horseshoe,” named by golf writer Dan Jenkins, is one of the toughest three-hole stretches on the PGA Tour, from Hole 3 to 5. It consists of two long par 4s and a long par 3 that require players to be precise with their tee shots – or else pars will be hard to find.
Who to Watch at the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge
Seven of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings headline the field. Four other past champions join Griffin in looking to become a two-time winner of this event.
Georgia Tech sophomore Albert Hansson will make his PGA Tour debut after winning the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab. In that event, Hansson won a five-man playoff that was hosted at Colonial in September.
Ryan Palmer, a Colonial Country Club member, will be making his 23rd straight appearance in this event after receiving a sponsor’s invite. We predict Justin Thomas will win the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge. In his last two starts he has finished T4 at the 2026 PGA Championship and 13th at the 2026 Truist Championship.
