At the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge, Russell Henley defeated Eric Cole on the first playoff hole for his sixth career PGA Tour win.
Cole took the lead heading into the final round after a 63 (-7) in the third round. He led Ryan Gerard by one stroke and two other golfers by two strokes. Henley was three strokes behind Cole to start the final round.
Cole’s final round of even par 70 left the door open for his competitors. Henley birdied his final three holes to force the playoff with Cole. All three of his birdie putts came from 15-feet or longer. Last year’s defending champion Ben Griffin finished one stroke out of the playoff after his birdie putt on the 18th green lipped out.
On the first playoff hole, Henley hit his approach shot to four feet while Cole hit his to 12 feet. Cole missed his putt while Henley made his to seal the win. Henley was asked about his play on the playoff hole in his round round press conference. He had this to say:
“I feel like I executed both those shots perfectly. And then was able to hit a decent putt under those circumstances. I was very nervous and just tried to stick to my same routine that I always do on every putt and commit to my line.”
The PGA Tour is off to Ohio for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Scottie Scheffler won back-to-back at the 2025 Memorial Tournament. He will be joined in the field by Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood and Jacob Bridgeman.
