After an exciting week at Augusta National, the world’s best are making their way to Hilton Head Island for the 65th playing of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.
This week’s event, a regular stop on the PGA Tour schedule, has been elevated to a “Signature Event” for the second year in a row. The PGA Tour introduced Signature Events to combat the rise of LIV Golf. While distinct from Major Championships like The Masters, Signature Events gather the PGA Tour’s top players eight times per year to compete for large purses.
This year’s purse for the RBC Heritage is $20M with $3.6M awarded to the winner.
What to Look Forward to at RBC Heritage
2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick will be defending his title after winning last year’s event in a playoff against Jordan Spieth. Fitzpatrick was struggling off the tee this year until he discovered an issue with the weighting of his driver in March. Since the discovery, Fitzpatrick has finished 5th, T10th and T22nd in his past three starts.
Scottie Scheffler enters the week off of a dominant 4-shot win at the season’s first major. Despite the looming birth of his first child with his wife, Meredith, Scheffler intends to tee it up this Thursday in an attempt to win four out of his last five tournaments (the loss was a T2). Scheffler is expected to withdraw from the tournament if Meredith goes into labor.
After a strong 2nd place showing at The Masters, Ludvig Åberg enters the week in top form. The 24-year-old Swede is one of the world’s best off of the tee and should be set up for success at a course that demands precision. Will Åberg capture the second PGA Tour title of his young career?
