After a two-hour fog delay to start the day, round one of the U.S. Open was completed early Friday morning. The 2023 U.S. Open Champion Wyndham Clark has a two-stroke lead over 2016 U.S. Open Champion Dustin Johnson.
Clark’s first round score of 64 (-6) was his first under-par round at a U.S. Open since his win in 2023.
Johnson opened the U.S. Open with a 66 (-4). He is looking for his first PGA Tour win since the 2020 Masters Tournament.
Two more former U.S. Open Champions – Gary Woodland (2019) and Matt Fitzpatrick (2022) – are three strokes behind the leader. Seven former champions in the field are currently T9 or better on the leaderboard.
Ryder Cowan is the first amateur to be in the top 5 of the U.S. Open leaderboard after any round since 2015. He’s a rising senior at Oklahoma University.
Rory McIlroy sits at 1-under par after an opening round of 69. He took the lead at one point during the first round at 3-under before finishing with back-to-back bogeys.
The World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No.1 ranked amateur Jackson Koivun shot 72 (+2) to be T46 after round one.
Round two tee times start at 6:50am ET with two threesomes going off on the first and tenth tees.
