Wyndham Clark will take a six-stroke lead into the final round while looking for his second career U.S. Open victory. Scottie Scheffler and three other players are T2 at 1-under for the tournament.
Clark is seeking to become the ninth wire-to-wire winner of the U.S. Open (no ties). 21 players have held a lead of six or more strokes heading into the final round of a major championship; the only player to not convert the lead to a win was Greg Norman in the 1996 Masters Tournament. With a win, Clark would become the fourth multiple-time winner on the PGA Tour this season and 24th at the U.S. Open.
Scheffler will need his largest comeback of his career to complete the Career Grand Slam. Scheffler and Tom Kim – both at T2 – will celebrate their birthday on Sunday while trying to win a major championship. Kim’s highest finish in a major is T2 at the 2023 Open Championship.
The other two players at T2 are Sahith Theegala and Sam Stevens. Theegala’s best finish in a major championship is ninth at the 2023 Masters Tournament. Stevens is looking for his first win in his 116th start on the PGA Tour. He has three career runner-up finishes, and his best finish was T23 at last year’s U.S. Open.
The round of the day was turned in by Emiliano Grillo (T6/E) with a 3-under 67. The course scoring average during the third round was 73.626, the highest of the first three rounds.
Round four tee times start at 7:45am ET with Dylan Wu and James Nicholas in the first pairing. The final group of Clark and Scheffler will tee off at 2:30pm ET.
