The fifth and final major of the 2026 LPGA Tour season is here at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club in Western England. This is the 50th edition of the AIG Women’s Open, and it is the fifth time Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club has hosted this event.
Miyu Yamashita is in the field this week to defend her title after she won her first career major title at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl.
Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club is a par 71 playing 6,601 yards. The golf course was designed by George Lowe and opened in 1886. Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club has hosted many professional events beyond the AIG Women’s Opening, including the Open Championship and the Senior Open Championship.
The purse for the AIG Women’s Open is $10 million, with the winner receiving $1.5 million.
Who to Watch at the 2026 AIG Women’s Open
The last major of the season has an unsurprisingly strong field with 24 of the top 25 players in the Rolex Ranking starting this week. The field also has all 19 winners on the LPGA Tour this season.
Nelly Korda is looking to complete the Career Grand Slam and join the LPGA Hall of Fame with a win this week. She is currently two points shy of the 27-point threshold to join an elite group of players while still in the prime of her career. If she finishes in solo second or better, she’ll also surpass Annika Sorenstam’s career earnings.
After finishing T16 in last week’s ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, Korda has a similar opinion on links golf going into this week.
“Obviously only play it for two weeks out of the entire year, but I do love being creative. I love that, like everything that you know kind of goes out the window,” she said. “There are so many different shots you can hit when you play links golf, and I think that’s what’s really fun.”
After winning the last two major championships at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship, Haeran Ryu is looking to win her third major in a season. With her last two starts coming at the majors she won, Ryu is looking forward to this week.
“I have a lot of confidence. I got a lot of confidence after two major championships, but this is another golf course and another golf tournament, so I just keep working hard with my team,” she said.
With the 2026 major season winding down, both Charley Hull and Jeeno Thitikul are looking for their first career major victory. After finishing as a runner-up five times, Hull is hoping this week is different.
“I just want to get over the line and win my first major. Five second-place finishes in majors kind of hurt. I remember looking at the faces walking in on the first day from last year and stuff; I was like, oh, I wish that was me,” she said.
