Chisato Iwai had a stellar performance to claim her first title on the LPGA Tour. Her bogey-free final round of 66 (-6) was more than enough for the win at the inaugural playing of the tournament.

In a week where the LPGA Tour returned to Mexico for the first time since 2017, the leaderboard was close going into the final day. American Jenny Bae was in the lead at 7-under with Japan’s Chisato Iwai and China’s Yahui Zhang right behind at 6-under. Iwai quickly distanced herself with a front nine 31 (-5) with birdies on four consecutive holes. Bae fell behind with a 39 (+3) on the front nine while Zhang remained at 6-under with a 36 (E). Iwai’s blistering play was too much to handle for Zhang, who finished with a 78 (+6).

After a successful career on the JLPGA Tour, where she has eight victories, Iwai has become the fifth first-time winner on the LPGA Tour this season.
With her victory, Iwai earned $375,000 and 500 points for the Race to CME Globe. She is projected to move into 18th place in the standings. She is already in the field for next week’s U.S. Women’s Open. Dana Fall will round out the field as the first alternate for the year’s third major.Â
