Chris Gotterup is the winner of the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open. He defeated Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge by two strokes for his second career PGA tour win. Gotterup is only the sixth American to win the Genesis Scottish Open

Gotterup and McIlroy shared the lead after 54 holes at 11-under, two strokes ahead of four golfers in second place. Both maintained their two-shot lead after the opening nine holes of the final round, making three birdies and a bogey each to finish with 33.

On the back nine, Gotterup birdied two of the first three holes to take a two-stroke lead over McIlroy. His lead dropped to just one after a bogey on the 15th hole, but he gained another stroke again with a birdie on the par-5 16th hole. Two pars on the final two holes sealed the victory.

With this win, Gotterup clinched his spot in the 2025 Open Championship. This will be his fourth career major start and first appearance at The Open. Gotterup, Nicolai Hojgaard and Matti Schmid earned the final three spots in the last major of the year with their performance this weekend.

Romain Langasque and Nico Echavarria both made hole-in-ones in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, this weekend. Echavarria won a car for holing out on the stadium hole.

The British Open at Royal Portrush is next on the schedule, running alongside an opposite field event: The Barracuda Championship, which will take place in California. There, Nick Dunlap will look to defend his title while Xander Schauffele will look to defend at The Open Championship.
