Blue Tees Golf is a brand that offers golfers technology to improve their game. Frustrated with the lack of high-quality rangefinders available, a group of friends combined their talents to create Blue Tees Golf in 2019.
In addition to rangefinders, Blue Tees offers GPS speakers, a small handheld GPS with a touch screen and other golf accessories, which have taken off thanks to brand ambassadors like Sean Foley, a golf instructor who has coached many big-name players on the PGA Tour.
Fairway to Green’s Nathan Rarick had the opportunity to talk with Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Drew Koehler about Blue Tees Golf’s work in the wake of the PGA Show in Orlando.
Nathan Rarick: What inspired you to found Blue Tees Golf?
Drew Koehler: The inspiration behind founding this company came from a shared love of golf and a shared frustration with the quality of available products. As weekend warrior golfers, we found ourselves turning to affordable rangefinders, only to be let down time and again by their poor durability and accuracy.
Within weeks, our rangefinders failed—one with a broken eyepiece, another that stopped turning on and the third consistently off by more than 10 yards. It was baffling that finding a high-quality, well-designed rangefinder at an affordable price was such a challenge.
With our combined backgrounds in technology, industrial design and marketing, we saw an opportunity to fill this gap in the market. We set out to create a rangefinder centered on premium materials, cutting-edge technology, modern design and–importantly–affordability. It wasn’t long before we introduced a product that met these standards and redefined what golfers could expect from their equipment.
NR: How is your technology different from that of your competitors?
DK: At the heart of our brand is technology that simply works. What sets us apart from the competition is our seamlessly integrated ecosystem of hardware and software products, designed to enhance every golfer’s experience.
Here’s what that looks like: our best-selling Player+ GPS Speaker, the compact and versatile Player Go GPS Speaker, the highly functional Ringer Handheld GPS Device and the cutting-edge Playmaker+ GPS Golf Watch all connect effortlessly to the Blue Tees Game App, creating a truly unified experience. But we didn’t stop there. Our hardware products don’t just work alongside each other—they work with each other. For example, the Ringer can pair with the Player+, letting it double as a convenient music control device during your game.
And the Blue Tees Game App takes it all to the next level. Unlike traditional golf apps that simply keep score or provide GPS data, our platform redefines how you experience and improve your golf game. By seamlessly integrating with your connected Blue Tees devices, Post Game captures every key detail: strokes, putts, fairway positions, driving distances and shot locations. It’s more than just data; it’s a completely new way to visualize and understand your game.
Powered by advanced analytics, Post Game turns these insights into actionable feedback designed to help you play smarter and improve faster. With its intuitive interface, you’ll uncover patterns, refine strategies and elevate your performance—all with ease. Together, our ecosystem of hardware, software, and next-generation analytics ensures every golfer has the tools they need to play their best, round after round.
NR: Do you need to purchase a membership to be able to use your products?
DK: No, you do not. When you purchase a Blue Tees GPS product, you’ll enjoy one year of premium access to the Blue Tees Game App—completely free. This premium subscription unlocks the full potential of your connected devices, giving you access to features designed to elevate your game.
After your complimentary year ends, you can choose to continue your premium subscription for just $49 per year and retain access to all the exclusive features and insights. Alternatively, you can opt for the free version of the app, which still allows you to connect and use your GPS products with basic functionality, such as GPS distances.
NR: How has social media impacted your company?
DK: Social media has been a cornerstone of our company’s growth and success. It has allowed us to connect directly with our audience, share our passion for golf and showcase our innovative products in an authentic and engaging way. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook have given us the tools to build a vibrant community of golfers who not only use our products but also actively champion our brand.
The impact of social media goes far beyond simple visibility—it has been a catalyst for rapid growth. Paid media campaigns, in particular, have played a pivotal role in scaling our business. They have enabled us to target golfers around the world, introducing them to the unique value our products offer. These campaigns, coupled with organic engagement and user-generated content, have amplified our reach and established Blue Tees as a trusted name in golf technology.
Moreover, social media has provided invaluable opportunities for real-time feedback and direct interaction with our customers. By listening to their needs and preferences, we’ve been able to refine our products and ensure we’re delivering exactly what golfers are looking for. In essence, social media hasn’t just supported our growth—it has shaped our identity and strengthened our relationship with the golfing community.
NR: Where do you see golf technology going next?
DK: The future of golf technology is undoubtedly headed toward deeper integration of hardware and software, transforming how golfers engage with their game. We’re likely to see an explosion of software-led product roadmaps leveraging AI and advanced models to deliver groundbreaking insights and analytics. This evolution will enable players at all levels to gain a better understanding of their strengths and areas for improvement in real-time.
Expect innovations that go beyond traditional shot tracking and swing analysis. For instance, devices that combine real-time biomechanical feedback with course management recommendations could become standard. Wearables and sensors may work seamlessly with mobile apps to provide personalized training regimens or simulate potential outcomes for different strategies during a round.
Additionally, community and social elements could see a boost through gamification and competition platforms that connect golfers worldwide.
As hardware becomes smarter and more connected, and software more intuitive and adaptive, the game of golf is poised for a technological transformation that caters to the needs of both amateur enthusiasts and seasoned pros.
