After her victory at the Women’s Australian Open, Hannah Green kept the momentum going by winning the Australian WPGA Championship this week. This is Green’s third victory in the last month across two tours.
After a strong third round of 67 (-4), Green led by two strokes over Switzerland’s Vanessa Knecht and South Africa’s Casandra Alexander. Green got off to a quick start with three birdies in her first four holes but slowed the momentum with bogeys on the following two holes. Knecht and Alexander struggled on the front nine, both shooting over par. With a comfortable lead, Green coasted to her second win in Australia this month, while Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling finished tied for second with Alexander after her round of 68 (-3).

Green has been one of the hottest golfers on the planet recently, on a roll with her third win in a month. Green’s domination began in Singapore at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.
“It feels really amazing,” Green said. “Again, it hasn’t really sunk in, but it’s been a really crazy month. I guess it’s been four weeks since I won Singapore. But it’s been really special to be able to do that in Australia.
“I didn’t really know how I was going to perform this week, because in the past, when I have won, I haven’t come into tournaments with much form. I’ve kind of flown under the radar if anything and it’s hard to back up a win, especially at home after [the] Aussie Open. It was such a big week.”
Alexander has also had an excellent start to her season, with four top-10 finishes in her four starts. Her lowest finish so far this season was sixth place at the Australian Women’s Classic.
Green earned AU$55,147.05 in prize money by winning the Australian WPGA Championship, but this tournament doesn’t count toward the LPGA Order of Merit. This is the second consecutive week Green hasn’t earned points, but she still sits in second place, in the running with 600 points.
The Ladies European Tour will not play next week, but the tour will resume at the Aramco Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, at Shadow Creek Golf Course from April 2-5.
