After being suspended for two months for betting on golf tournaments, Marco Penge won the Hainan Classic by three shots to claim his first title on the DP World Tour.

Penge entered the final round tied at 12-under with China’s Bowen Xiao. However, the challenger for him was American Sean Crocker. Crocker shot eight birdies and an eagle in his final round but made four bogeys to go along with them. Penge found his groove after the first five holes to make seven birdies in a nine-hole stretch. He was able to finish with pars for his first victory.

Penge’s suspension resulted from his betting on golf tournaments. It was found that he did not bet on any tournaments he participated in, but broke the rules of the DP World Tour. He said this after his win:

This obviously means the world to me. It’s something that I’ve always dreamt of achieving – winning on the biggest stage. After my time off it was the thing that I wanted to really prove to myself and prove to everyone, to show what a player I am.”

The victory comes with €382,588.89 and he moves into 11th place in the Race to Dubai. Penge also earns a spot in the 2025 PGA Championship, which will take place at Quail Hollow Club in three weeks.
