Marco Penge shot a final round 67 (-4) to beat Rasmus Hojgaard at the latter’s home tournament, the Danish Golf Championship. After turning pro in 2017, Penge has improved his game to claim two DP World titles in 2025.
After a wild three days where Hojgaard made 16 birdies and an eagle in three rounds, he entered the final round one stroke ahead of Penge. As the lone Dane to win his national tournament in 2023, Hojgaard looked to defend his title. He started hot with an eagle and two birdies in his first six holes. Mistakes on the following four holes, including a double bogey on the par-3 ninth, were too much to overcome. Penge’s steady play was rewarded, as he made a birdie putt on the 18th hole to win. He had this to say after his victory.
“I’ve been playing so well this year,” Penge said. “After coming back from my time off to have won so soon, and to have achieved what I’ve achieved since I’ve won. My main goal after I won was to make sure I don’t get complacent.”
With his performance this season, there will be a conversation about whether Penge could be a good fit for the European Ryder Cup team. With six players already qualifying for the team automatically, it will be up to captain Luke Donald to select his final six picks.
With his win, Penge earned 585 points in the season-long Race to Dubai competition. He also earned €402,610.06 in prize money. Penge moved into second place in the Race to Dubai standings behind Rory McIlroy.
The DP World Tour will resume next week at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo. Niklas Norgaard will look to defend his title.
