Miyu Yamashita shot a final round of 70 (-2) to win the AIG Women’s Open for her first win on the LPGA Tour. She defeated Charley Hull and Minami Katsu by two shots to win the final major of the LPGA season.

After her round of 74 (+2) on Saturday, which saw her lead cut down to one, Yamashita started her round with three birdies in her first nine holes. A bogey on the par-4 17th was the only mistake in her round. Her seven bogeys over four rounds were the fewest amongst the field this week. Yamashita had this to say after her win.

“To win such a historic tournament in front of all these amazing fans is such an incredible feeling, and to have my family around me to have so much support from everyone here is just amazing. To be part of such a moment in history is something very, very special,” she said.

Yamashita is in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour after securing her membership through the LPGA Q-Series. The 24-year-old had a successful career on the JLPGA Tour with 13 wins, including three major championships.

With her win, Yamashita earned 650 points in the Race to CME Globe and $1,462,500 in prize money. She moved into fourth place in the season-long competition.

Charley Hull finished the tournament in a tie for second with Minami Katsu after her round of 69 (-3). Hull led the field in birdies with 22 and had the fewest putts with 109. This is the fourth time in her career that she has been the runner-up in a major championship.

Spain and Stanford’s Paula Martin Sampedro shot the lowest round on the course on Sunday to win the Smyth Salver. She is the seventh player to win the Women’s Amateur and the Smyth Salver in the same year. After making back-to-back bogeys on her first two holes, she made five birdies in a row to start her back nine. Her back nine of 30 (-6) vaulted her into the top 10 in her first appearance at the AIG Women’s Open.

The LPGA Tour will resume on August 14th at the Standard Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon. Moriya Jutanugarn will look to defend her title after her two-shot victory in 2024.

The Ladies European Tour will resume next week at the PIF London Championship at the Centurion Club.
