
Ryan Gerard defeated Erik van Rooyen by three points for his first career PGA Tour title.
After three rounds, Ryan Gerard and Rico Hoey were tied for the lead with 34 points. The Modified Stableford format gives players points on each depending on their score. This was the first time in their careers either of them has held a 54-hole co-lead/lead. Meanwhile, 2021 champion Erik van Rooyen was in second place with 33 points.
Gerard shot a 3-under 68 in the final round. He gained 13 points thanks to two eagles and three birdies. With this win, Gerard becomes the 11th first-time winner on tour this season and eighth to win their first PGA Tour event at the Barracuda Championship.
“It’s just like a culmination of a lifetime of work, I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent hitting golf balls dreaming of winning on the PGA Tour. Yeah, it’s really special,” Gerard said after winning.
Van Rooyen shot a 4-under 67 that gave him 11 points for the round. Hoey gained zero points after shooting a 3-over 74 on Sunday.
Beau Hossler gained the most points – 17 – Sunday after shooting an 8-under 63. His round included six birdies and one eagle.
Next week the PGA Tour heads to Minnesota for the 3M Open, where Jhonattan Vegas will look to defend his title. This is the penultimate event in the FedExCup regular season.
