Xander Schauffele defeated Max Greyserman by one shot to win the 2025 Baycurrent Classic. This is Schauffele’s 10th career PGA Tour win and first since the 2024 Open Championship.
Schauffele and Greyserman shared the 54-hole lead at 12-under. Greyserman held a four-shot lead after two rounds but an even par round of 71 on Saturday had him tied atop the leaderboard with Schauffele, who shot 67 (-4) in his third round. Five players, including last year’s champion Nico Echavarria, were three shots back from the lead.
Schauffele, Greyserman and Michael Thorbjornsen were tied at 15-under after the opening nine holes. Thorbjornsen shot a 6-under-30 on the front while Schauffele and Greyserman shot 3-under-33s.
Schauffele took the lead with a birdie on the 10th hole. Greyserman and Thorbjornsen tied him with birdies on the 12th hole. Schauffele and Greyserman birdied the 13th hole to get to 17-under. Heading to the 18th hole, Schauffele held a two-shot lead after making birdies at the 14th and 17th holes. Greyerman birdied the 18th hole while Schauffele made par to win by one shot.
Schauffele has a special connection to Japan with his mom and wife growing up there, his grandparents living there and winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Schauffele said, “I’ve been coming here since I was about 9 years old to visit my grandparents, I sort of fell in love with this country a long time ago. I can’t wait to bring my son here when he’s old enough to sort of understand and appreciate the culture here in Japan.”
This was Greyserman’s fifth career runner-up finish on the PGA Tour. In this event last year, he lost by one shot to Echavarria.
Matt McCarty had the round of the tournament, shooting an 11-under-60 in the final round to set the 18-hole low score record in the Baycurrent Classic. He made birdie on the first eight holes of the back nine. He needed a par on the 18th hole to shoot 59, but he hit his tee shot out of bounds and settled for bogey.
The PGA Tour’s next stop is in Utah in two weeks for the Bank of Utah Championship. McCarty will look to defend his title.
