Scottie Scheffler defeated Harris English by four shots to win the 153rd Open Championship. It is his fourth career major victory.
After Scheffler’s first nine holes, he held a five-shot lead over Chris Gotterup and Hao-Tong Li. His only error of the day was a double bogey on the eighth hole, his first bogey or worse in 33 holes. With four birdies and four pars on the previous eight holes, he still shot a two-under 34.
On the back nine, Scheffler made eight pars and one birdie to shoot another 34. He finished The Open Championship at 17-under par. For the first time in his career, Scheffler shot in the 60s all four rounds. He is just the seventh Open Championship winner with four rounds in the 60s and first since Collin Morikawa in 2021.
Meanwhile, English shot a five-under 66, clinching his second runner-up finish in a major this year. The first was his T2 finish behind Scheffler at the PGA Championship. Last week’s winner, Gotterup, finished third at 12-under. Li, Matt Fitzpatrick and Wyndham Clark finished in a tie for fourth at 11-under.
With this victory, Scheffler joins Tiger Woods, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus as the only four players to win the Masters, PGA Championship and Open Championship all before the age of 30. He is just the twelfth man to win four majors before turning 30 and 31st player to have four or more major championship victories. He will have a chance to complete the Career Grand Slam next summer at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Minnesota for the 3M Open, where Jhonattan Vegas will look to defend his title. This is the penultimate event in the FedExCup regular season.
