Scott Golf is a golf club manufacturing company that prides itself in providing golfers the most consistent and best-feeling golf clubs. The owner, Scott Petersen, designed and finished the first irons released by Scott Golf in 2010. Every iron and wedge produced by Scott Golf is designed with a one-piece forged head delivering exceptional feel, better feedback and enhanced shot-shaping control.
The newest product for Scott Golf is “The Woody Putter,” whose face is made with a wooden inlay. Petersen was inspired to start Scott Golf after looking for golf clubs with exceptional feel.
Fairway to Green’s Nathan Rarick had the opportunity to talk with Petersen ahead of the PGA Show in Orlando.
Nathan Rarick: Can you talk about the creation of your new product, “The Woody Putter”? Why a wooden face?
Scott Petersen: The wooden face was an idea that was talked about with my good friend in Florida. One year at dinner, we talked about bringing back class and how to incorporate wood into putters, making a putter that was classy, sexy, super cool, a performer and new. These are what I came up with to not only represent the classics, but also the future of wood in golf. Other companies are already following this idea, so I know it’s a great one! But ours offer one-of-a-kind putters, every single one. Real wood inserts with feel, looks and class!
NR: What makes your irons and wedges different from big-name companies?
SP: We are not mass-produced, so we can control quality much better. We also offer customized irons and wedges with many more options offered than any other company. We can individualize with no limits what someone may want. We have no limits.
NR: What customization options are available (shaft, grip, lie angle, loft)? Do you offer fittings?
SP: Custom options are almost unlimited: we offer shafts, all types, no limits. We can color any steel shaft with perfection to a rainbow of colors. We offer custom ferrules, grips, any length, lie and fittings to make sure these will be your best set ever. If we do not have a fitter in your area, we like to have the player go get fitted at his or her local fitting center and then share the data. I do this all the time.
NR: How important is custom fitting compared to off-the-rack clubs?
SP: In my opinion, most recreational golfers are not going to gain much, but when you care about your game, want to improve your score, and have fun, let’s get you fit. It will improve all parts of your game, from driving, to putting and everything in between.
Getting fitted for your clubs is critical for the golfer who wants consistency and improvement. Getting some sort of coaching will also help in this area.
NR: What are your future plans and goals for Scott Golf?
SP: I hope to become known in the golf world as a great creator, which others follow, look to and be accepted by in this crazy brand of world golf companies as one of the best. We have already spread worldwide and sell a lot in the Asian markets as well as the Middle East.
