Scottie Scheffler came from four back to defeat Robert MacIntyre by two shots and win the BMW Championship. This was the second most dramatic comeback victory of his career.
After three rounds, MacIntyre held a four-shot lead over Scheffler, while Ludvig Aberg was alone in third, six behind the leader at 16-under.
After the opening five holes of the final round, Macintyre lost his four-shot lead. With three bogeys, he fell into a tie for the lead with Scheffler at 13-under. By the end of the front nine, Scheffler held a one-shot lead.
Scheffler had some ups and downs on the final nine holes—he followed a birdie on the 11th hole with a bogey on the 12th, then missed a short par putt on 14, bouncing back with a birdie on 15. He all but sealed his victory after holing his chip shot for birdie on the 17th hole. With a par on the 18th hole, Scheffler claimed his 5th win of the season. He now has back-to-back seasons of winning five times.
Scheffler has won 14 times in his last 33 starts, claiming three majors, six signature events, two playoff events and an Olympic gold medal. This season, specifically, he has finished top-25 in all of his events. This is his 13th time in a row finishing T8 or better.
Harry Hall is the only player to earn a spot in the TOUR Championship after finishing in sixth place and moving to 26th in the FedEdCup standings. Meanwhile, Lucas Glover fell from the 30th spot after finishing T40.
The three other automatic qualifiers for the U.S. Ryder Cup team are now set. Scheffler, J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele are joined by Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Russell Henley.
The top 30 in the FedExCup points list will move on and compete at East Lake Golf Club for a chance to win the TOUR Championship, where Scheffler will look to defend his title and become the first golfer to win the FedEx Cup in back-to-back seasons.
And we can’t forget the special guest of the week – the gnat that helped Tommy Fleetwood sink his putt and ultimately end up T4.
