Bryson DeChambeau’s face says it all – it’s game time! The rain can’t bring down our mood.

There’s no more speculation (for the moment). We have our Friday Foursomes now, but we’ll still have to wait after each session for the next round of pairings. Anything can change in those hours!

In the Foursomes matches, we’ll have two players from each team play alternate shot. For example, if Bryson DeChambeau tees off on the first hole, his teammate Justin Thomas will hit the next shot; they’ll alternate until the ball is in the hole. DeChambeau would then be assigned to tee off all odd-numbered holes while Thomas would tee off all even-numbered holes.

A ton of strategy goes into these pairings and tee assignments. The captains from both teams look into stats, camaraderie and more before selecting the pairings and who will tee off first.

For the Fourball matches in the afternoon, we have each player play his own ball and then the best score of the two teammates counts towards match play. For example, if Scottie Scheffler birdies a hole and Russell Henley pars it, Team USA will take birdie on that hole. If Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick both par the same hole, Team Europe takes par and Team USA would win that hole because a birdie beats a par.

Again, the captains have thoroughly researched which pairings will make the most sense for this format, as some players may have the distance to go for eagles while other players are extremely consistent when it counts the most.

This will be the format for Friday and Saturday – Foursomes in the morning and Fourball in the afternoon. Sunday will conclude with Singles matches.
