The LPGA Tour concludes its stretch in Asia this week at the TOTO Japan Classic. The tournament will be played at Seta Golf Course in Otsu-shi, Shiga, Japan. This is the only tournament that Japan hosts on the LPGA Tour schedule. This is the 48th playing of the TOTO Japan Classic, which is co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour and the LPGA of Japan (JLPGA) Tour.

Japan’s Rio Takeda looks to defend her title after she earned her first career victory on the LPGA Tour last year in a six-hole playoff.

Seta Golf Course is a par 72 playing 6,616 yards. The tournament’s purse has increased by $100,000 from $2 million in 2024 to $2.1 million in 2025.

Who to Watch at the 2025 TOTO Japan Classic

After her victory at the 2024 TOTO Japan Classic as a non-member, Rio Takeda aims to build on a strong rookie season. Takeda has made 25 cuts in 27 starts on the LPGA Tour this season with seven top 10s and a win at the Blue Bank LPGA in March. Although she won last year, Takeda says she still needs to be careful this week.

I like [the course] so far. Some greens are tricky and pretty fast from the top of the edge, so that’s why I need to pay attention,” she said.

Takeda is part of a strong field this week with plenty of talented Japanese golfers. Miyu Yamashita, Chisato Iwai, Akie Iwai and Mao Saigo are all winners on tour this season. Yamashita says Japanese golfers have an advantage this week.

“It’s kind of an advantage for the Japanese players because they are already used to playing the Japanese golf course,” she said. “The level of Japanese golf is getting higher, and that’s another point to win.”
