Viktor Hovland defeated Scottie Scheffler in a Monday playoff to win the 2026 Travelers Championship

The final round started with Hovland being one stroke ahead of Scheffler. At the end of the fourth round, the players were tied at 21-under and heading to a playoff.

Hovland struggled through the first 10 holes on Sunday, making four bogeys to lose his lead. Heading into the final round he only made two bogeys in the first three rounds. His stretch of three consecutive birdies started on hole 13 was interrupted on the 14th hole due to nearly a 90-minute weather delay.

The momentum after the delay shifted to Hovland after making back-to-back birdies to tie Scheffler atop the leaderboard. The World No.1 Scheffler saved par on the 15th by holing a near 8-foot putt. On the last hole, Scheffler had a 9-foot putt for par after a poor drive and first putt.

Hovland’s birdie putt from 25 feet just peeled to the right of the hole for a tap-in par. Scheffler, needing to make his putt to force a playoff, rolled his putt into the middle of the cup. Because the weather delay forced a late finish, the playoff was pushed to Monday morning.

This is Hovland’s eighth career win and first since the 2025 Valspar Championship. With this win, he became the eighth international winner this season and second Norwegian winner of this season, joining 2026 Truist Championship winner Kristoffer Reitan. Hovland now owns a 2-0 playoff record after defeating Scheffler in extra holes.

The round of the day was turned in by Collin Morikawa with a 9-under 61, equaling his career-low round and giving him a third-place finish at 20-under. Wyndham Clark finished T5 in a bid to become the first player to win on the PGA Tour the week after winning a major since Scottie Scheffler.

The John Deere Classic is next up on the PGA Tour. Last year, Brian Campbell won his second event of the 2025 season. He will look to defend his title against a field that includes Chris Gotterup, Ben Griffin and Jackson Koivun making his first professional start.
