Lancaster Country Club was quite the stage this weekend for the 79th U.S. Women’s Open. A decidedly difficult course saw very few rounds under par.

In fact, 2024 U.S. Women’s Open Champion, Yuka Saso, was one of two players to finish in the red today.

Saso isn’t new to winning this major, though there were some changes from last time she won in 2021. Then, she represented the Philippines – her mom’s side – and was the first Filipina to win the U.S. Women’s Open. Upon turning 21, she decided to represent her dad’s home country, Japan, and then became the first Japanese golfer to win such a large event.

This is Saso’s first win in three years – since her last major championship – and has given her a great chance at representing Japan in the upcoming Olympics.

NCAA Standouts in the U.S. Women’s Open Field

You may also recognize a few of the amateurs’ names in the field this week from the NCAA DI Women’s Golf Championship two weeks ago.

First, we have Adela Cernousek, a Texas A&M player who just finished her junior year with the NCAA individual title and her first collegiate win. She made the cut on this difficult course and finished T67.

You will also likely recognize this year’s ANNIKA Award winner, Ingrid Lindblad of LSU, who unfortunately missed the cut, along with FSU’s Lottie Woad – runner-up at NCAAs – and Megha Ganne – part of the winning Stanford team.
