The World Wide Technology Championship was the first official PGA Tour event played outside the U.S. and Canada in 2007. This is the 20th edition of this event in Mexico and fourth consecutive at El Cardonal at Diamante.
The event is the sixth of eight in the FedExCup Fall portion of the 2026 season. Players are looking to secure their position inside the top 100 to become exempt on the PGA Tour for the 2027 season. The FedExCup Fall also determines eligibility for early-season Signature Events.
Last year, Ben Griffin earned his third win of the season.
About El Cardonal at Diamante Cabo San Lucas
El Cardonal golf course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Los Cabos, Mexico, plays 7,452 yards as a par 72. This was Tiger Woods’ first golf course with his TGR design firm. Having designed the course based on those he played while growing up in California, he wanted the golfers to have multiple shot options on each hole and to bring back golf strategy.
The course record during tournament play is 61 (-11), shared by Carson Young, Nick Dunlap, Garrick Higgo and Sami Valimaki.
Who to Watch at the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship
Griffin and Ryan Gerard are the two highest-ranked players in the field. Young pros Jackson Koivun, Blades Brown, Ben James and Luke Clanton are also in the field.
Austin Hitt, a college teammate of Griffin and Gerard at the University of North Carolina, is one of the sponsor exemptions in the field. He will be a rookie on the PGA Tour in 2027 after earning his membership by finishing No. 6 in the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour Points List; he won the Korn Ferry Tour championship last month.
Griffin was asked what it’s like to be on the PGA Tour with Hitt in his pre-tournament press conference. “I was honestly crying when he won, too, because his dad passed away, a big Virginia golfer, and it was just so special to see him win in Virginia to get his Tour card, and then obviously to get a spot here. World Wide Technology gave him a spot two years ago as well, which was his first PGA Tour start, and it’s really cool to see him progress and get his Tour card. I’m really excited to be on Tour with him next year”.
We predict Ben James will earn his first career PGA Tour win. In three of his last five starts he has finished in the top-5.
