J.T. Poston defeated Ryan Gerard on the second playoff hole to win the 2026 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. This is Poston’s first win since the 2024 Shriners Children Open.
With two holes to play, five players were tied for the lead. Gerard broke the tie with a 37-foot birdie putt to take the lead going into the 18th hole.
Poston hit his approach shot on the 72nd hole to seven feet to set up a birdie putt. Gerard two-putted for par, forcing Poston to make his birdie putt. And that he did.
The pair made par on the first playoff hole, but it would all end on the second playoff hole. Gerard missed his par putt from six feet, leaving Poston a par putt from three feet for the win. This is Poston’s fourth career victory on the PGA Tour.
The win qualified Poston for the U.S. Open and Open Championship and moved him to no. 32 in the FedExCup Rankings. He had this to say on what it meant to him to win this tournament:
“It sounds like a dream. Just incredibly proud, incredibly humbled. This is one of the events that we have circled on our calendar at the start of the year every year, and it just feels amazing to get it done, and just to be a part of the rich history here.”
The PGA Tour’s next stop is in Canada for the 2026 RBC Canadian Open. In 2025, Ryan Fox defeated Sam Burns on the fourth playoff hole for his second win last season. Fox will be joined in the field by Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa and Corey Conners.
