Wyndham Clark Maintains Lead Heading Into the Weekend

Wyndham Clark holds a four-stroke lead over four players going into the final two rounds. His score of 133 (-7) is the lowest opening 36-hole score at a U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Clark finished his final two holes of his first round before starting his second round this morning. After shooting 64 (-6) in the first round, he followed that with a 69 (-1) during the second round to extend his lead. 

Matt Fitzpatrick shot an even 70 and is part of a four-way tie for second. Xander Schauffele shot a second round 66 (-4) to join Fitzpatrick at T2. Schauffele has finished in the top 14 in all nine prior U.S. Open appearances. 

Tom Kim is also T2, which is his highest 36-hole position of his PGA Tour career after a second round of 67 (-3). Sam Stevens rounds out the four-way tie for second after a second round 69 (-1). Stevens has played in eight major championships and has made the cut in each. 

Five amateurs made the cut, including Jackson Koivun and Miles Russell; they are T46. Ryder Cowan is the low amateur after two rounds at T11. 

Four former U.S. Open champions missed the cutline at 4-over: Brooks Koepka (+10), Jon Rahm (+6), defending champion J.J. Spaun (+8) and Bryson DeChambeau (+5). Other notable players that missed the cut are Viktor Hovland (+5), Rickie Fowler (+5), Patrick Cantlay (+6) and Shane Lowry (+6). 

Round three tee times start at 9:00am ET with Jacob Bridgeman and Dylan Wu in the first pairing. The final group of Clark and Fitzpatrick will tee off at 3:45pm ET.
