The 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first event in the FedExCup playoffs. The FedExCup points the players earned throughout the year will carry over through the first two playoff events. After this event, the top 50 in the standings will move to the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club next week.
All three events in the FedExCup Playoffs feature a progressive cut with fields of 70 (FedEx St. Jude Championship), 50 (BMW Championship) and 30 (Tour Championship). The top 70 players in the FedExCup points list are fully exempt for all full-field events and The Players Championship for the 2027 PGA Tour season.
In the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Justin Rose defeated J.J. Spaun on the third playoff hole, and five players moved into the top 50 thanks to their performance at the event.
About TPC Southwind
TPC Southwind, hosting the playoff event for the fifth time, plays 7,288 yards as a par 70. The golf course has multiple water features that come into play on 11 of the 18 holes, with the par-3 11th hole featuring a peninsula green similar to the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. A windmill and grain silos from the course’s days as a dairy farm form the background of several holes, immersing players in the property’s history.
The course record is 61 (-9), shot by Jay Delsing (1993 FedEx St. Jude Classic), Bob Estes (2001 FedEx St. Jude Classic), Tom Lewis (2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational) and Rose (2023 FedEx St. Jude Classic).
Who to Watch at the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship
Sixty-nine of the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings are teeing it up to try to get into the BMW Championship next week. Daniel Berger (No. 60) is the only player not in the field, due to injury. There are no cuts at playoff events, so every player will have four rounds to improve their position on the points list.
We predict Hideki Matsuyama will win this first leg of the playoffs. He has made the cut in all 20 of his starts this year and has five top-5 finishes. Three of those top-5 finishes have come in the last three weeks: T3 at the 3M Open, T5 at the Rocket Classic and T7 last week at the Wyndham Championship. He also won this event in 2024 and lost it in a playoff in 2021.
