Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick defeated two teams by one stroke to win the 2026 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. This is Matt’s fifth career win and third of the 2026 season. This is Alex’s first career PGA Tour win.
The victory provides Alex with an exemption onto the PGA Tour through 2028 and into the following events:
- 2026 PGA Championship
- 2026 Cadillac Championship
- 2026 Truist Championship
- 2026 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday
- 2026 Travelers Championship
- 2027 Players Championship
Alex is clearly finding momentum this season after winning the 2026 Hero Indian Open last month for his first win on the DP World Tour.
Matt has won back-to-back times on the PGA Tour after the 2026 RBC Heritage last week. He is now the only player from England to win three or more times in a season.
The Fitzpatrick brothers made waves during the third round after shooting a record-low 57 (-15) in the Four-Ball (best ball) format. However, that didn’t guarantee their win.
In the final round and in the Foursomes (alternate shot) format, the Fitzpatrick brothers blew a four-stroke lead on the back nine after making a double bogey and bogey in a three-hole stretch. Needing a birdie on the 18th hole, Alex hit their approach into the greenside bunker. Older brother Matt showed off his hands and hit the bunker shot to 14 inches for a tap-in birdie by Alex. After their win, Alex had this to say about the winning birdie putt. “I couldn’t feel my hands. I couldn’t feel my legs. I couldn’t feel anything.”
This is their fourth time playing this event together, with their previous best finish T11 in 2024. Matt, who has won a major and multiple Ryder Cups, was asked how special this win was with his brother. “To win a team event on the PGA Tour with my brother, I don’t know if it does get better than that.”
The PGA Tour next heads to Trump National Doral in Miami for the inaugural playing of the Cadillac Championship. The Signature Event field will include seven of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Rankings.
