The second round of the NCAA DI Men’s Golf Championship was a bit windier today as expected, and you can see the results in the afternoon wave’s scores.

The Sun Devils rose through the ranks today, proving they belong at the NCAA Championship. They didn’t qualify for it last year after hosting the previous three championships at Greyhawk Golf Club in Arizona. Today’s round – the lowest of the tournament – goes to show how volatile golf can be.

There is still one more day of competition before the field is cut to the top 15 teams and top 9 individuals not on those advancing teams.

The teams have been reshuffled based on their positions on the leaderboard and will tee off in two waves again – one starting at 6:30 a.m. PT and the second at 11:50 a.m. PT.

All eyes were on Oklahoma this morning, and while they still played well, it was Arizona State who took the lead. The Sun Devils shot 11-under as a team today, the best round thus far in the championship. Connor Williams led the team with his 67 (-5) today and is tied for the overall individual lead at 9-under with Ole Miss’ Michael La Sasso.

Other shifts in the leaderboard from this morning include the rise of Auburn, Oklahoma and Ole Miss and the drop of Illinois and Texas Tech.

Afternoon Wave Leaders

The afternoon brought in higher scores today. However, Ole Miss made a big jump today into the top 10, with Pepperdine and Georgia Tech moving more comfortably into the top 15.

Brigham Young was the surprising drop this afternoon, going from T8 to 18. For religious reasons, they already played their third round at 1-over as a team on Wednesday in order to avoid competing on a Sunday. We’ll see if their 1-over will help them get into the top 15 tomorrow.

USF, New Mexico, San Diego and Augusta’s performances yesterday were unfortunately not repeated, and they are at the bottom of the leaderboard; they’ll need to go incredibly low tomorrow to make the cut.

Follow along tomorrow on Instagram (@fairwaytogreen) and see if the afternoon wave will have as much luck with the wind as today’s.
