It looked like Spain’s favorite, Eugenio Chacarra, was about to win at home, but Grant Forrest’s birdie on the final hole regained him the lead. Not only did the win at the 2026 Open de España secure Forrest his third DP World Tour title, but it also earned him entry to The Open Championship at St Andrews and The Masters in 2027.
Forrest began the day in a shared lead with Joe Dean. Jacob Skov Olesen birdied the first two holes – the first hole statistically becoming the hardest opening hole of the entire DP World Tour season – to snag first position, but Chacarra’s 5-under (including a 40-foot eagle putt) on the front nine quickly propelled him into the lead. Dan Brown also used a hot streak to temporarily take the clubhouse lead at 11-under, but Chacarra and Victor Perez later finished at 13-under.
Forrest and Dean both had some trouble early on in the round, but Forrest began recovering with three birdies in four holes on the back nine. After a magnificent up-and-down save on the 16th hole for par, Forrest needed a birdie on the final hole to edge out Chacarra and Perez. With another up and down – this time for birdie – Forrest clinched his first DP World Tour win outside of his home country of Scotland.
“I’m in shock, honestly, pure shock right now,” said Forrest. “That’s fairy tale stuff, I’ve played two Opens and to be going to Augusta, I just can’t get my head round it. You can have a great career in this game and never get to go to Augusta, so I cannot believe it.
The DP World Tour continues this week in India for the DP World India Championship. Tommy Fleetwood will be back to defend his title and vie for the largest purse seen in India – $4 million.
