Ben Griffin defeated Matti Schmid by one stroke for his second career win – and first solo win – on the PGA Tour.

Schmid and Griffin were tied at 13-under par after three rounds at Colonial Country Club. At 9-under-par, Rickie Fowler was the next closest to the leaders, in the final group for the first time since his last win at 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Griffin started the fourth round with an eagle-birdie combination on the first two holes to give him a three-shot lead over Schmid. Griffin’s lead grew as large as five shots before back-to-back bogeys dropped him to just three ahead. Schmid birdied the ninth hole to cut Griffin’s lead to two heading onto the back nine.

Griffin continued to lead by two until Schmid made a bogey on the 14th hole. On the par-3 16th hole, Griffin’s lead shrank from three to one after he made bogey and Schmid made birdie. But after Schmid shot bogey again, Griffin headed to the 18th tee with a two-shot lead. Schmid then chipped in for birdie while Griffin got up and down for par and the win.

This is Griffin’s second career win but first solo win on the PGA Tour. His first win came at the team event in New Orleans with Andrew Novak. With this win he moved up to fifth in the FedExCup standings and joined Rory McIlroy, Sepp Straka and Scottie Scheffler as multiple-time winners this season.

Next week the tour heads to Muirfield Village for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.
