Jordan Gumberg won the 2026 Hainan Classic presented by MAEXTRO after defeating Jorge Campillo by one stroke. This is the second career win for the American, who also won the 2024 SDC Championship.
Many remember Gumberg’s dramatic finish at the end of last season when he eagled out on the very last hole of the Genesis Championship to keep his card for the 2026 season.
“I don’t have words right now,” said Gumberg. “After last year’s ending of the season, this is amazing. To be standing on the podium again and holding a trophy is unreal, it’s incredible.”
Gumberg and Campillo started the final round tied atop the leaderboard at 17-under. The leaders made the turn at 18-under after both shooting 35 (-1) on the opening nine holes. The third playing partner in the final group, Dylan Frittelli, quickly fell out of contention after a 4-over-40 on the front nine.
Gumberg then increased his lead to two strokes after Campillo made bogey on the 10th hole while Gumberg made birdie on the 11th. But when Campillo birdied 12, Gumberg’s lead was reduced to one stroke.
One stroke continued to separate Gumberg and Campillo as both made par on the final six holes. Gumberg’s final round of 70 was enough to make him a wire-to-wire winner for the first time in his career.
Gumberg said in his press conference after the trophy presentation: “It feels unbelievable, this is a dream-come-true week.”
China’s 17-year-old Yanhan Zhou claimed the title of best Chinese player after finishing in third place at 15-under. This finish moves him to 73rd in the Race to Dubai Rankings. He talked about how this high finish gives him confidence in his upcoming events.
“This will give me very much confidence to play well for the next events. I’m very much looking forward to playing the Volvo China Open.”
The DP World Tour heads to India next for the Hero Indian Open. In the 2025 Hero Indian Open, Eugenio Chacarra defeated Keita Nakajima by two strokes to win for the first time on the DP World Tour. David Puig, Akshay Bhatia and Elvis Smylie will join Chacarra in the field.
