It’s time for the LPGA Tour‘s second major of the season at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally. The tournament will be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA. Maja Stark will look to defend her title after her victory at Erin Hills last year.
Riviera Country Club is one of the most well-known courses in Southern California and has hosted multiple PGA Tour events, such as the Genesis Invitational and the U.S. Open. The course will also host the golf tournaments at the 2028 Summer Olympics. This is the first time Riviera Country Club will host the U.S. Women’s Open.
Riviera Country Club was designed by George C. Thomas and opened in 1927. For this week’s tournament, the course is a par 71 playing 7,040 yards. The purse for the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open is $12.5 million.
Who to Watch at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open
Because this is a major week on the LPGA Tour, all the attention turns to its top players. One of the major storylines this week is Jeeno Thitikul searching for her first major. The nine-time winner on the LPGA Tour has finished inside the top ten at a major nine times, including a runner-up finish at the 2025 Evian Championship.
World number one, Nelly Korda, is looking for her fourth career major and second this season. Korda has been sensational this season, with wins at the Chevron Championship, Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. There’s a lot of talk about Korda giving herself an opportunity to close out a Career Grand Slam this year if she wins another major after this one.
After finishing T2 last year at the U.S. Women’s Open, Korda said she learned a lot from her experience.
“Last year was just a weird year of kind of not necessarily playing my best, but also when I did, not getting the bounces or just missing by a centimeter here and there. But I also learned a lot about myself. It made me hungrier to be in those positions,” she said.
Lydia Ko is also a player to watch this week as she is close to two career milestones. She is searching for the Career Grand Slam with wins at the 2016 Chevron Championship, the 2024 Women’s British Open and the 2015 Evian Championship. She is also $767,007 behind Annika Sorenstam on the LPGA Tour’s all-time money list. Ko was humble when compared to Sorenstam.
“It’s cool to be compared to that record and hopefully surpass it at some point, but it’s like very hard to kind of like compare it because we are playing for a lot more money than she did back in those days…So it’s very exciting for the women’s game, but record-wise, no, I just feel like I’m like an ant and she’s — I don’t know what the biggest bug or living thing is, but she’s that,” she said.
Despite being nearly seven months pregnant, Madelene Sagstrom is teeing it up this week. She and her husband, Jack Clarke, are expecting their first child together in September.
You may also recognize a few players from the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Golf Championships. Individual champion, Farah O’Keefe, earned her spot with her win last week. Megha Ganne, Meja Örtengren and Paula Martín Sampedro of the winning Stanford team will also be competing.
