The 2026 Genesis Scottish Open will be the fifth time this event is played as a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. This is the final event of The Open Qualifying Series, where three spots will be available for next week’s 154th Open at Royal Birkdale Golf Club; the top three players, not otherwise exempt, who make the cut will earn an exemption. This event is also one of five Rolex Series events on the DP World Tour schedule.
In the 2025 event, Chris Gotterup became the sixth American to win the Genesis Scottish Open by defeating Marco Penge and Rory McIlroy.
In his pre-tournament press conference, Gotterup was asked about the biggest lesson he learned this past year. He said, “Just being able to perform under the pressure that I was under last year was a big confidence boost for me.”
About The Renaissance Club
The Renaissance Club plays 7,282 yards as a par 70. This is the eighth year in a row that the course will host this event. However, there are some changes to the course this week compared to the past years.
The holes have been rerouted: holes 1-7 holes 10-16 will be switched so they’re part of different nines. Holes 8, 9, 17 and 18 will remain the same as last year. Rory McIlroy said of the rerouting back to its 2019 setup, “It’s certainly a little bit of a different setup than it usually is. This course has definitely rewarded longer hitters and hitting driver a lot and getting it down there. The rough is noticeably more penal this year. Just having to be more thoughtful about tee shots and some of your play off the tee. But everything else is pretty much the same.”
The course record is 61 (-9), shared by Gotterup, Bernd Wiesberger and Byeong Hun An.
Who to Watch at the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open
The stars will be in Scotland as six of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings are in the field. LIV Golf’s Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and David Puig are also in the field. Young DP World Tour players with multiple wins a piece – Eugenio Chacarra, Jayden Schaper and Casey Jarvis – are looking for their third wins of their seasons.
Defending champion Gotterup isn’t backing down against a competitive field. “Last year, coming up against Rory and Scottie and all these guys and coming out on top and I thought maybe I might be better than I thought I was beforehand,” he said. “But thinking you can do it and doing it are two different things.”
We predict Matt Fitzpatrick will earn his fourth PGA Tour win of the year. He finished fourth at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago and has three top-10 finishes at this event in the last five years.
