J.J. Spaun won the 2026 BMW PGA Championship by two strokes to become the third American to win this event.
Spaun started the final round one stroke back of the leader, but four birdies in his final five holes gave him the clubhouse lead at 17-under. Manuel Elvira tied Spaun at 17-under with an eagle on the 17th hole, but a double bogey on the 18th dropped him into a share of second place with Aaron Rai, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.
This is Spaun’s second career win on the DP World Tour after winning the 2025 U.S. Open. He is the first player to win in their debut at Wentworth since Byeong Hun An in 2015.
In Spaun’s last tournament, he withdrew after five holes of the TOUR Championship with a shoulder injury. He was not one of Brandt Snedeker’s captain’s picks for the Presidents Cup despite finishing 10th on the points list.
“Being left off the Presidents Cup team was very disappointing. I wanted to prove I deserved to be on that team. I took care of my business this week,” Spaun said.
The DP World Tour heads to France next for the FedEx Open de France. Last year, Michael Kim broke a 7-year winless drought by defeating Elvis Smylie and Jeong Weon Ko by one stroke. Kim will be joined in the field by Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Viktor Hovland.
