Matt Fitzpatrick won the FedEx Open de France by three strokes over Ángel Hidalgo. This is Fitzpatrick’s fourth professional win this season, with the other three coming on the PGA Tour.
Fitzpatrick started the final round with a five-stroke lead after a Saturday round of 65 (-6). The Englishman only made two birdies in his final round of 70 (-1), but it was enough to earn him his 11th career win on the DP World Tour.
This win happened after Fitzpatrick and his wife welcomed their first child, Jack, a couple weeks ago. “I can’t wait to get home and see them,” Fitzpatrick said after his win.
Hidalgo finished runner-up at 17-under and claimed the exemption tothe 155th Open at St Andrews.
Matthieu Pavon and Tom Vaillant were the top French finishers at 15-under in a four-way tie for third with Kristoffer Reitan and Eugenio Chacarra.
The DP World Tour heads to Scotland next week for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Robert MacIntyre will defend his title against a field that includes Alex Noren, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka.
