Austin Smotherman defeated Seamus Power in a playoff to win the 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Due to the weather forecast on Sunday, the tournament was shortened to 54 holes with a playoff between Smotherman and Power scheduled for Monday to decide the winner. The players began on the par 3 16th hole. After each player made par the first time two times, the hole location was changed on the green. On the third playoff hole, Smotherman won with par after Power made a bogey.
This is Smotherman’s second career victory, the first coming in his last start at the 2026 Bank of Utah Championship. He is the eighth multiple-time winner on tour this season and the first player to win back-to-back starts since Matt Fitzpatrick earlier this season.
“Mentally, that we love doing what we’re doing. We’re out here playing an incredible sport in a beautiful spot. Whatever things are going to be thrown at us, Zach and I were going to be on top of our game,” said Smotherman in regards to the weather’s impact on the tournament. “Yesterday I felt like we handled everything pretty well. The Tour’s been great communicating what’s going to happen today for us. Once we got that news it was nice to know what’s going on. To come out on top is a cherry on top of that, so pretty awesome.”
With his win, every player who has won an event in the fall is a multiple-time winner this season (Jacob Bridgeman and Michael Brennan). Smotherman is also now 1-0 in playoffs in his career on the PGA Tour. He moved to 52nd on the FedExCup Fall points list. The win also secured him PGA Tour Championship series status through 2029.
Power was seeking to become the first multiple-time winner of this event after winning it in 2022. This is his fourth top-10 finish of his season and 25th of his career. The runner-up finish moved him to 68th in the FedExCup Fall standings.
The PGA Tour is off to Mexico for the VidantaWorld Mexico Open. In 2025, Brian Campbell defeated Aldrich Potgieter in a playoff. The field will include Wyndham Clark, Tom Kim and Ben Griffin.
